In 1942 the Germans established a forced labour camp for Kraków Jews on the KL Plaszow Memorial site of Kraków, eventually reorganizing it into a concentration camp. The largest group of prisoners included Kraków Jews transferred from the Kraków Ghetto in March 1943. Jews from other ghettos in the Kraków district of the General Government, Poles suspected of being involved in the resistance movement, and Romani families were also imprisoned in the camp. In August 1944, thousands of Poles arrested on ‘Black Sunday’ were detained in the camp. Executions carried out by German military police also took place in KL Plaszow.
At present, the post-camp area contains some clear traces of the past: relics of cemeteries, fragments of camp infrastructure, evidence of land levelling, and commemoration sites. The tour is aimed to make people familiar with the history of KL Plaszow and the historical and current topography of the memorial site.

- Where does the visit begin and end?
The visit begins and ends next to the board displaying an aerial photograph of KL Plaszow taken in 1944, marked with number 5. It is installed near the historic Grey House (Google Maps) at 3 Jerozolimska Street.
- How long will the meeting last?
The visit is planned to take about two hours.
- How should I prepare for the visit?
The group of visitors participating in the tour will walk across a diverse terrain, mainly along paths with a gravel surface and asphalt-paved roads. Please see weather forecast to choose suitable clothing, remember to protect your head on sunny hot days, wear comfortable shoes and take a bottle of water. Take an umbrella or a raincoat with hood, if rain fall is forecast.
Visitors who suffer from allergy are reminded that the memorial site is an open green area.
The visit includes stretches leading through Jewish cemeteries; men are required by tradition to have their headwear on when visiting a cemetery. - Where can I read more about KL Plaszow prior to the meeting?

The easiest way of arriving to the meeting point is on foot from Podgórze, or on public transport, getting off at the Cmentarz Podgórski or Dworcowa stop; tram lines: 11, 13, 24, 73, 74.

Annually on the first Sunday of August inhabitants of Kraków meet to commemorate the prisoners of KL Plaszow, to tell the history with their words. Fragments of witness accounts, quotes, excerpts from memoirs read by the participants illustrate the history of this site.

The Jewish cemeteries in Podgórze
The participants in the guided tour will be offered the opportunity to discover the history of two Jewish cemeteries (the old cemetery used by the Jewish Religious Community of Podgórze, and the new cemetery used by the Jewish Religious Community of Kraków), the scale and consequences of their wartime devastation, and the forms of their commemoration that can (or cannot) be observed in physical space.
