Description:
KL Plaszow was established on the grounds of two Jewish cemeteries (the old cemetery used by the Jewish Religious Community of Podgórze, and the new cemetery used by the Jewish Religious Community of Kraków). The participants in the guided tour will be offered the opportunity to discover the history of both necropolises, the scale and consequences of their wartime devastation, and the forms of their commemoration that can (or cannot) be observed in physical space. The visitors will be introduced to Jewish religious law (halakha), explaining the importance and role of cemeteries in Jewish tradition. Also, selected types of epigraphs that can be found on headstones (known as matzevot) will be discussed with their symbolism explained.
